It's all over!! Well, I guess it's not all over...still have a few assignments to turn in! :)
WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! Reflecting on the week as a whole, I can't believe how much I have learned, and not just about tech! I enjoyed learning about the people in class and making new friends. It was awesome to learn more about Liberty University and to have the opportunity to make a personal connection while on campus! Lastly, it was valuable to learn about the dissertation process! In reflection, I certainly came to the conclusion that this is what I want...I want to earn an EdD!
In regards to technology, I do feel much more prepared and motivated to implement new strategies into my classroom instruction. I am lucky to work in a district where we have quite a bit of technology at our fingertips and a decent amount of support to turn to for help! I need to take some time over the next week or two to "play" with some of the things that we learned to reinforce my newly acquired knowledge. We head back to school at the beginning of August so I am lucky to have that time!
THANK YOU, Dr. Dunn for a wonderful week! You have a great gift and do an amazing job passing your enthusiasm onto others! I am grateful for the opportunity to learn with you!

Thursday
I wasn't sure about today from the time I woke up...at 5:00 am!!! Why so early, you ask?? A great question that I can't answer. I just woke up! Trying to make the best of limited time, I decided I might as well get up and get my workout over with. All was well until I realized, while on the treadmill, that I never turned the alarm off. I then had to end my workout early to head back to the hotel and shut off the alarm before I upset other people. In short....little sleep....little workout. I was just hoping that all my bad luck was done for the day!
Morning class was great. I really do love learning about all the fun "stuff" to do on the computer. It's great that it is not only learning for my profession, but just valuable life knowledge. My brother, the IT guy, would be so excited to hear me say that I am actually enjoying technology! He usually only hears my frustrations as he is helping me troubleshoot across 10 states! I was most excited about Audacity. It is something that I have heard our tech ed specialist talk about so I know she will be more than willing to help me when I get back to the trenches!
We received more helpful hints for dissertation. This time it was about SharePoint. Again, I know I still have quite some time before I go through the process, but I am feeling so prepared and ahead of the learning curve. I am also exited to share it with my friend, Brandy, who is just beginning her dissertation! She has helped me so much so it will be nice to repay the favor!
The one thing I learned this afternoon for sure is Dr. Dunn is a patient man! There were all sorts of tech glitches and his calm manner just soothed things over. I did enjoy the technology this afternoon. So happy that photo story is so easy! Without a doubt, I will use that for instruction.
Looking forward to presentations tomorrow...and of course the opportunity to rest a bit!

Wednesday
Funny story about Tuesday night. I give my husband a good night phone call and what do we end up talking about? Databases! I promise this is a true story and not just some attempt to make my professor happy! He is currently in an MBA program and taking an Information Systems class. The topic of the week happens to be databases! It was a far cry from our usual Tuesday night conversation consists of useless complaining about who was kicked off of the Food Network reality show, The Next Food Network Star!
About today...What is the difference between qualitative and quantitative research? A great question that I really didn't have an answer to since I am just a lowly EdS student! Talk about feeling out of my league. When the hives of embarrassment started to break out, I simply reminded myself that my learning will happen in due time. Well, I didn't really remind myself, the professor did! Much appreciated! I certainly gained a big enough foundation to be able to work effectively on my prospectus assignment and review of lit work, which is all I really need right now.
LOVED the conversation about dissertation. While I am EdS now, I do plan on earning my EdD. What a wonderful opportunity to hear all of the information in advanced!! Knowing the expectations will certainly help me get ahead of the game! I wonder if this 45 minutes is suppose to be apart of the course or if its just a courtesy by Dr. Dunn. Either way, it was priceless!
Anyone out there ever play around on Second Life? WOW! There are so many adjective to describe this site, and many are contradictory! Strange, engaging, inappropriate, professional, wasteful, powerful.... Going to need to process that a little more!

Tech Tuesday
Let me start by answering what I am sure is the burning question...yes, I did sleep much better last night. Partly because I wasn't nearly as nervous, but I must give some credit to finally figuring out the air in my wonderful hotel room!
About the class...What an amazing morning! I loved learning the bells and whistles of Word and PowerPoint! The application of what I learned in those few hours is priceless! It will help me as a doctoral student, a teacher, and simply as a user of technology! It's amazing to think how complicated technology can make our lives, but at the same time make it more efficient! I am definitely thinking about taking a more in depth class on Microsoft before I really get going on my dissertation. I think the time and money spent on such a class will pay off HUGE in the long run!
The afternoon was spent on database, namely Access. I have not quite come up with a way to effectively use this system in my classroom or in my daily life. That may be because I am not sure that I want to come up with an effective use. If I do, I will have to use it again, and I am pretty sure that will be nothing short of a disaster!
Very excited to learn about WebQuest! The topic was an easy one since on the drive up here I was just thinking...I have got to do something to make the "Explorers" Unit in Social Studies much more interesting! I know just thing! Check back tomorrow and I will let you know how it went!
Off to work on my lit review! So thankful to be in a team of hard workers!

Monday
I LOVE SLEEP...and I had trouble sleeping last night! Luckliy, that is not a common practice of mine! First intensive class! First face to face class in this doctoral adventure! Am I in over my head? All these (plus more) crazy thoughts going through my head and I really am not a panic type person! Well, now that the day is coming to a close, I realize that there was nothing to worry about. I knew it the minute the morning pray was over. What a great way to comfort my worries!
I am shocked how much I learned in the first day. Not just the content information, which was great, but items that will effect me in my doctoral adventure! Most impressively, I appreciate the guidance that we were given in regards to dissertation. I am very early in this adventure and it is so nice to be able to do all of this planning ahead. In addition, I just love the "little helpful hints" that I am getting. For example, setting up a folder in the online library already came in handy as I was doing additional information for my lit review!
Being able to get together with my team was a great way to end the day. Of course we had some revisions to the plan we made over the summer and there was some knew researching that was needed to be complete, but that's okay. It is a 700 level class so it is to be expected!
Day 1 is down and I certainly expect to be able to sleep much better tonight! Looking forward to the brain overload that is for sure on its way tomorrow!
